How to Get an Effective Outdoor Workout

Here’s the thing, folks:

I’m no one HIIT wonder (see what I did there?)

I love the gym, I love classes, I love studios, I love to workout at home, and I love love love to workout outside. I actually have to mix it up because variety is fun and it stretches me out of my comfort zone.

That being said, I’m going to share with you some tips and essentials for how to get an amzing outdoor workout, and even how to do it under 30 minutes…yeah, we ain’t got all day! Get it in and get on with the day, right?

 
TIP #1: If you have a park nearby, highly recommend that! There’s no age limit on that kid equipment, utilize it, tricep dips on the steps, feet on the swings for pike up and knee tucks. Better yet, there’s always benches around if your park is more zen and less “play pen”. Do some step ups on those suckers (box jumps for my bad asses). Ok, BOOM! I just gave you so many good ideas there. If you don’t have a park nearby, your neighborhood will do just fine. Start with a walk, or run, or intervals and for more, add some cool moves like I listed above. One of my favorite things to do is either walk or run between park benches and then at each park bench I pick a different workout to do and either set a time limit or choose a number of repetitions to do. If you’re lacking in ideas to do for bodyweight workouts, hit up the Google or the Pinterest and search “bodyweight moves to do anywhere”…this isn’t rocket science people. You got this!

TIP #2: Invest in a GYM Boss. And by invest, I mean…it’s $30 on amazon. I’ll put the link here so you can see the adorable pink one I bought. (side note, you will need to purchase a wrist strap so you can wear it on you for like a ridiculour $2 extra–did I lose you? *sarcasm*) This is an amazing interval timer that allows you to set multiple intervals for multiple times. You don’t have to have one of these. You can use a stopwatch or even the one on your phone, but I prefer the gym boss, because I can “set it and forget it”-yeah I stole that line right now-sue me! But, seriously, it beeps and/or buzzes to let you know when your interval is up. I wear my phone in a Flip Belt to listen to my music, so I don’t like having to hold it and try to watch the time when I’m trying to huff and puff and focus on form. Yeah I know they have interval apps but again, don’t like to hold things, and gym boss is sooooo much easier to set. But, hey if that floats your boat, then by all means, but these are my tips for you so I say–I HEART THE GYM BOSS! Trust me. Speaking of Flip Belt…

TIP#3: Buy a flip belt. Link is here so you can take a look. Again, small investment, and they have other brands that may be cheaper, but after reading the reviews, I decide for about $5 more, I would just go with the top rated brand. I’ve worn this sucker through a half marathon, jumping around, yoga, you name it. It’s amazing! It’s not bulky under your clothes, it’s washable (hallelujah!!), and it holds more than just your phone. Get one now!

Last tip…

Tip #4: Stretch Bands or basically handle-less resistance bands. Buy them. You can use these for a bajillion things.

At home, at the park, pilates, yoga, upper body toning, lower body toning, etc. Seriously love them. I found a 3-pack on clearance at Wal-Mart for $6. It has three resistance levels: Light, Medium, and Heavy.

They are so slim you can shove them in a pocket, your flip belt *wink wink*, or shoot, tie them in your hair. No excuses people. You can get an amazing workout ANYWHERE! I 100% guarantee that.
